Principle 1: Trust
Trust is an important foundation of the health information system and for the reuse of health data. This principle builds on the starting point in the National Vision and Strategy for the health information system of VWS, which states: “Citizens, healthcare providers, scientists and the government have confidence in each other and in the careful use of data. We work together in confidence to provide appropriate care and support efficiently. There are agreements to safeguard this trust. Trust in each other and reliability of data are the starting point of this vision.”
Here too, trust has a multiple meaning: it concerns citizen trust in the authorities involved, trust between stakeholders in the healthcare information landscape and trust in the quality of the data (reliability).
Trust is an important foundation of health information systems and for the reuse of health data. Trust has a multiple meaning here: it concerns citizen trust in institutions, trust between stakeholders in the healthcare information landscape and trust in the quality of data (reliability). Terms such as transparency, integrity and security are important here.
Trust is hard to gain but easy to lose. That is why it is important to make agreements about this principle. But which agreements contribute to increasing this trust? What should we agree on in the Netherlands on this subject? How is trust related to other principles?
