Storyline: Making imaging data available
This article contains a further elaboration of Storyline: Making data available for the data category imaging. The image below shows the application components that are part of the storyline. The storyline is otherwise identical to the above storyline.
Explanation
The original source data is managed in a local PACS ((Picture Archiving and Communication System). For secondary use, the data from PACS data is transferred to a persistent imaging data platform (Imaging Data Repository, Research PACS) using a PACS to Research PACS export script.
The PACS to Research PACS export script can be completed by
DICOM protocol
Clinical trial processor (CTP)
File upload
an API
There is a difference between PACS and 'Research PACS'. The PACS are healthcare PACS and intended for use in 1st, 2nd and 3rd line care. The 'Research PACS' exist within the persistent data layer and can handle project structures and authorizations as well as protected fields. DICOM files in healthcare PACS have directly identifiable data in the dicom header, while this is no longer the case for the (end user) in the persistent data layer.
