Engaging the broader community during and after the development of a domain-specific metadata schema requires deliberate strategies to ensure collaboration, feedback, and (long-term) adoption of the schema.

Stakeholder analysis

Identify core users, stakeholders and networks. Engage domain-specific organizations, consortiums, and funders to mandate or encourage schema usage

Consultation meetings / surveys

Regularly solicit for feedback via surveys or comment periods during schema drafts

Collaboration platform

Use platforms like GitHub for schema development to allow transparent contributions and documentation

Hackatons / workshops

Host hands-on events to refine the schema collaboratively or to onboard datasets into the catalogue

Training / documentation

Offer webinars, guidelines, and examples about the metadata schema including the why, what and how to use it. Clearly communicate how the metadata schema will address challenges like findability, interoperability, reuse, etc.

Publish an article describing the schema and its development process
