Step 0. Intake

status: in review

Short description

If you are a part of a health domain or a working group and have ideas for extending the Health-RI core metadata schema with domain-specific metadata, the step in advance is to reach out to our service desk at servicedesk@health-ri.nl. Here you can express your interest, ideas or questions. If the request is about developing a domain-specific metadata schema for the National Health Data Catalogue, a) you should check some eligibility criteria (see below); and b) you will be asked to fill in an intake form.

This intake is necessary for a couple of reasons:

  • At Health-RI, we may have insight in concurrent domain-specific metadata developments of related (sub)domains, and we may bring you in contact with this (sub)domain first to see if your metadata wishes matches theirs.

  • In the developing process we have a supporting and consulting role and implementing an eventual model into the catalogue is done by us. Therefore, we need to have a rough estimate about the expected effort and timelines (especially when you don’t have DCAT- and/or linked data expertise present in your domain)

  • We need an informed decision together if it makes sense to start developing a domain-specific metadata schema in light of potential international domain developments. Would you/we like to be a ‘front runner’ or is it more efficient to wait for the international domain developments?

If together we decide on developing a domain specific metadata schema, we’ll set up a first 2hr informative session where we explain the background, process, possible hurdles and opportunities.

Description

Deliverable

Description

Filled in intake form

A brief form with questions about the domain, request, available expertise, etc.

Decision

A decision if and when we start the development process.

Information session

An informative session on the background, process, possible hurdles and opportunities.

How

  1. If you have a question about (existing) domain-specific metadata schema, you can have a look at the progress page to see which domains are currently developing a schema, or you can contact servicedesk@health-ri.nl.

  2. If you are not sure if your domain is eligible to develop a domain-specific metadata schema for the National Health Data Catalogue, please contact servicedesk@health-ri.nl. For example:

    1. You have domain-specific best practices regarding metadata or data standards, modeling, definitions;

    2. You are involved in a data FAIRIfication process in a certain domain;

    3. You are working with(in) a domain on common data models;

  3. If you would like your domain to specify domain-specific metadata for uptake in the National Health Data Catalogue, then please check the criteria below and contact servicedesk@health-ri.nl.

Eligibility criteria

Here are some criteria that can guide you in determining if your domain is a good fit to work with us on a domain-specific metadata schema, building on the Health-RI core/health schema for inclusion in the National Health Data Catalogue. Meeting one or more of these criteria increases the likelihood of collaboration, but other considerations may also apply:

  • You represent an established domain node or formalized working group within the Health-RI network (e.g., oncology, cardiovascular, omics, imaging, clinical, Biobanks & Collections), or your domain/disease area is in the process of becoming one; or

  • You represent another large national domain or community that is organized and/or financed via one of the (inter)national funding bodies (such as the EU, ZonMw or NWO) or domain-specific funders (such as KWF, Dutch Heart Foundation); or

  • Your project, domain or disease area is part of a larger consortia, and could use the National Health Data Catalogue to get broader support for your metadata schema, to allow for national uptake.

If your domain doesn’t align perfectly with the criteria above, but you believe it could still be a good fit, feel free to reach out to servicedesk@health-ri.nl to discuss your specific situation.
